Diekema is a key member on the pitch, but also is a leader off the field. "He also does all the little things to be a great teammate and help the team. Whether it is listening to a younger teammate, giving a positive comment, or picking up equipment he unselfishly does the little things no one ever sees," said Green.

This is not the first recognition that Diekema has been honored with this season. Earlier in November, he was named to the Horizon League All-Academic team that is comprised of 12 student athletes chosen by faculty representatives that have significant classroom and on-field achievements. Diekema currently boasts a 3.82 GPA.

Diekema has high hopes for the 2018 season as the men's soccer team transitions to Southern Conference play.
