The Michigan Wolves-Hawks Soccer Club hosted a College Night on Tuesday, February 8th, 2011. Gary Parsons, current U18 Wolves Academy Coach and former Oakland University Men's Soccer Head Coach, and Nick O'Shea, current Oakland University Women's Soccer Head Coach, conducted the seminar. The objective was to inform players and parents about the rules and procedures of college soccer recruiting, and the process of searching for the right school.
The seminar was well attended and very informative. A couple of main resources were presented that can assist you with your college search. The first was everyone should read the Guide for the College Bound Student Athlete. Be Pro-Active and gather information on schools. Once you know the division the university plays in it is a good idea to find out their ranking to determine if they are a good fit for you. Be Realistic!
Coach Parsons talked about checking your High School's NCAA eligibility requirements and using the NCAA tool to complete this process. The start of your Junior year you must register with the NCAA Eligibility Center however there is lots to accomplish before your Junior Year. NCAA Division 1 coaches cannot return phone calls to prospects until July 1st after junior year so you must initiate contact.
The NSCAA has signed a deal with Topdrawersoccer.com for reporting information. They will be reporting all the scores this coming season and also have colleges broken down by conference. A great resource for the college bound soccer player.
Thank you to Gary Parsons and Nick O'Shea for providing an interesting and valuable seminar.
